I asked my Mum where she would like to go, or what she would like to do, and she decided on afternoon tea at Chewton Glen, a 5-star luxury country house hotel just on the edge of the New Forest in Hampshire, and a 7-minute drive from Highcliffe Castle in Dorset (which, history geek alert, became the residence for Harry Selfridge, the owner of Selfridges. Who else is loving Mr Selfridge on ITV by the way?!). Chewton Glen is a renowned boutique hotel and the only privately owned 5-star in the UK. Over the years we’ve had many milestone family events at this hotel so it holds very special memories.
My Mum is very special to me for two reasons. We love doing all the usual mother, daughter things, especially shopping together when we have been known to buy the same things! But the second thing that makes my Mum so special is how supportive she is of everything I do. Not only that, but we truly are a dream team because skills and personality wise we are complete opposites so we work in perfect harmony. My Mum does so much to help me run Beauxoxo. In fact, if it wasn't for her support there would be no Beauxoxo quite frankly so I owe her the world for this. She's my bestest friend and biggest support and I'm so thankful to have her in my life.
And so last Sunday we arrived at the impressive gates of Chewton Glen and drove towards the beautiful gothic mansion building set on 130 acres of countryside and natural beauty. After a little browse of the lovely gift shop, selling an array of local produce from Dorset and Hampshire (and gorgeous teddy bears in little Chewton Glen spa robes!) we were shown into the conservatory overlooking their idyllic gardens. My Mum ordered Chewton's Glen own blend of tea whilst I picked Jasmin as I do so adore it.
The afternoon tea selection arrived on a cake tray that included sandwiches such as smoked salmon and brie and pear, home made scones with cream and jam and a varied and artistic array of cake for the perfect finale. To my sheer delight whilst I had to pick a dairy free tea it was just as wonderful as my Mum's selection and there's nothing I really missed out on at all apart from a few alterations to the cake plate that included a scrumptious berry cupcake and almond cake amongst other delicate treats. After managing to eat everything we left feeling very full and content after our glorious afternoon teas that we both enjoyed immensely. In fact, my Mum said it had been one of the best Mother's Day treats ever!
I couldn’t recommend afternoon tea at Chewton Glen highly enough and for £29.50 per person it’s very reasonable indeed, and you are also able to take home a free sample of tea so that was a wonderful surprise. As the days get lighter you’ll no doubt want to stay longer and explore the beautiful surroundings and maybe even wander down to the beach which is just a 1-mile walk from the hotel. The spa is also the ultimate pamper day treat and it's just so wonderful to see how much this hotel has expanded over time with so many huge celebrities favouring this wonderful spot on the South Coast. It certainly makes me feel very fortunate and lucky to have this so near me and I'll definitely do more posts if you would like me to.
A huge thank you once more to Ocean Loans for this lovely treat for my Mum and I that we so thoroughly enjoyed.
Have any of you been to Chewton Glen?
