Arriving in Cannes and a French Riviera Côte d'Azur Video Diary

Last month I had a mini break in the beautiful French Riviera, which translates to 'Côte d'Azur' in French. As you some of you may have seen from my June 'My Little Box' titled 'My Little French Riviera Box' it's a part of the world I've always loved dearly.

The Côte d'Azur is the Mediterranean coastline of the southeast corner of France, which also includes the sovereign state of Monaco. There is no official boundary, but it is usually considered to extend from the Italian border (the Italian Riviera) in the east to Saint-Tropez, Hyères, Toulon, or Cassis in the west of France.

This beautiful stretch of coastline is often refered to as the first modern holiday resort. In the Winter it began as a resort for the British upper class at the end of the 18th century. In the mid-19th century, with the arrival of the railway, it then became the playground and holiday spot of British, Russian, and other aristocrats, such as Queen Victoria and King Edward VII (when he was Prince of Wales).

In the first half of the 20th century, it was frequented by artists and writers, including Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Edith Wharton, Somerset Maugham, and Aldous Huxley, as well as wealthy Americans and Europeans. After World War II, it became a popular tourist destination and convention site. Now it's so sought-after that many celebrities, such as Elton John and Brigitte Bardot, have homes in the region. Not only that, but anyone who is anyone in the celebrity world seems to spend the majority of their summer in the French Riviera. So, if you're strolling around Cannes and St Tropez, who knows which celebrities you might spot! In fact, during my stay Leonardo Dicaprio was living the high life on his private yacht in St Tropez. Oh la la! Moreover, such is the allure of this beautiful region that the Côte d'Azur is home to 163 nationalities with 83,962 foreign residents. And trust me, I was super tempted to never leave!

I have so many photos from my trip (and of course a Sephora haul!) that I've decided to break the days of my holiday into sections. This first post is mostly aerial views flying into Toulon from Bournemouth. From there, we travelled to Cannes on a train arriving at our hotel which was the Holiday Inn in downtown Cannes. The very first evening we arrived I of course had to tuck into my favourite meal of all time: Sea Bass and roasted vegetables. Because Mediterranean food = a very happy Georgie!

I'll share more photos from my Côte d'Azur adventures soon but meanwhile, I've compiled all my video clips and made this 'vlog' video diary for you all. It's a little taster for what's to come on my blog and I hope you enjoy watching it!

Has anyone travelled to the French Riviera before?
