Music Monday: Imogen Brough

imogen brough the voice australia

You know sometimes people can be a tad annoying when they go 'oh my goodness I knew her/him before they were famous' but in a way like...they own them or something? Does that make sense? haha. Well can I be that person for just a nano second? In a nutshell, months ago now I stumbled across the lovely Imogen Brough's Facebook Page and I knew instantly I had found a star in the making. I'm kind of obsessed with my Aussie sisters, and due to the fact I have grown up with Neighbours and have distance relatives in Australia, I'm just really interested in the land of Oz and what goes on! As a result, I was so, so happy to see the other day that Imogen had auditioned for the Voice, and not only gone through, but made the biggest impression on the coaches Ricky Martin, Delta Goodrem (fan girl alert!!), Joel Madden and Seal with all four of them turning around ready to persuade her to pick them as her mentor. In the end, she went with Ricky Martin but you don't see that on the video, and I would have thought she would have gone with Delta Goodrem but Ricky proclaimed her 'a star' and he's definitely right there.

For her blind audition Imogen performed a cover of Florence Welch's 'Never Let Me Go' and both in dress and voice there are similarities to Florence, but there's no copy-cat thing going on here at all, Imogen has a beautiful unique Celtic charm and sound that will draw in and capture Australia because it's just so very different to the other music over there. I adore her floaty ethereal dress, and she's such a Beauxoxo girl, it would be such an honour to create a boho hair accessory for her! Her tone is so stunning and her high register so beautifully controlled, and for proof of both of those listen to her song, 'Celtic Song' which is simply mesmerising.

Imogen was born into a Celtic family in Victoria, Australia, and so it makes sense that her music has that folk-pop fusion inspired by her Celtic roots. She began her music career in school bands throughout her teens and the now 21 year old studies music at The Victorian College of the Arts. Alongside singing, Imogen also plays the piano, guitar, flute and violin, and is a very gifted singer-songwriter. My favourite song of hers is 'Heart' so I've included a Youtube clip for you to listen to.

If you like what you hear above then make sure you check out Imogen's Facebook fan page here, her Twitter here and her ep 'Counting Waves' that be found on itunes here. I hope you fall in love with Imogen's beautiful music as much as I have!
