Music Monday: Two Door Cinema Club

When I do my Music Monday posts I try to find new artists you may not have heard of but today I actually want to discuss a band that are pretty much here, there and everywhere! That band is of course Two Door Cinema Club, an Indie rock band from Northern Ireland who you have probably heard in a plethora of adverts and shows ranging from Debenhams, Vodafone, Meteor, Microsoft and so many more. The band consists of Sam Halliday (lead guitar, backing vocals), Alex Trimble (vocals, rhythm guitar, beats, synths) and Kevin Baird (bass, backing vocals) and I bet you the song you probably know the intro to so incredibly well is, ‘What You Know’ which I have included as the first video, and the reason it’s so successful? Because this is a band with a presence of totally infectious hooks! Every single song they create has them aplenty and I truly think it’s that element in their music, that whole falling in love with a melody and a musical hook, that makes you come back wanting more and more! 

The opener to their latest album Beacon released last September is a song called  ‘Next Year’ which I just think is, without sounding silly, just such a ‘cute’ little song, a lovesick track if you like, that yet again sounds like something you would hear in an advert on TV for months on end, or the soundtrack to something or other. Like so many Two Door Cinema Club songs it is so very cheery, and the melody as I said before is so infectious and yet underlying so much of their music are thoughtful lyrics, sometimes a little melancholy, sometimes about dejection, and the loneliness they have experienced with their non stop touring schedules.

Their musical world seems unstoppable for this band right now, and I cannot wait to see what 2013 will bring. Are you a Two Door Cinema Club fan? If so, share the love below!
