Where I Craft and Studio Tour

004005008009010012015021022020This is a post I assumed no one would be interested in at all but lately I have been getting a lot of people asking where I craft and about my studio in general. Okay so first things first, let me just break that wonderful image of a studio. It’s really not. It’s a conservatory that I call my base! When my shop got a bit bigger it meant that I needed a bit more space to store things so this is perfect. I try my best to keep things tidy, but if I’m being honest, I’m a disorganised mess!

As I always say with my make up and general room storage I don’t think I am a shining example of storage perfection but I do love my plastic towers that I have from Staples. You might recognise these from my bedroom that I did a post on not long ago but since then I have moved them down to my ‘studio’ because I had so many bits and pieces.  All of my supplies live here, and even though I only make hair accessories you’d be surprised just how many things you can collect! So I have a drawer for my little charms, one for appliques, one for trim, jewellery bits, lace, elastic, clips, hair bands, fabric, butterflies, flowers and it goes on and on!

Then I actually craft on a fold away table and an old green chair from many moons ago. Where possible I try and collect things on the cheap rather than buy things new because at the end of the day (oh no, I actually used that phrase didn’t I? To Jeremy Kyle I go…!) I want to spend money on getting gorgeous supplies not fancy furniture. I have a teeny tiny broken clear plastic drawers which has pencils, pens, lipstick (ummm, opps!), glue, scissors and things I use all the time. I put admin bits in an old ice cream box. Yep, told you all I like to do things on the cheap!

When products are finished I place them in cupcake stands or something similar and they then get moved to boxes which I also got from Staples, but again I collect all sorts of boxes. I also like to trial products on my gorgeous models (left to right ;): Coco, Vivienne and Betsey...any guesses as to the origins of their names?!). Hat boxes make wonderful floral garland storage and old cardboard boxes get turned into mini boxes to send out to you lovely lot! I then work out how much stock will get divided around. I post 10% of what I make on my website and the rest is sold through shops and markets. I think that would be my number one tip for anyone wanting to start a part time crafting business. Whilst we are in an online age I still think it’s essential to get out there and let people see your creations. You'll be honestly amazed at how much is to be made vs. online. I have so much fun doing markets and have done for years. The little pink tubs are so easy to put in my car, as is the table, and away I go!

So that’s pretty much a little tour of my base and I hope you all enjoyed it! The only downside to working in a conservatory is that in the winter it is absolutely freezing but then in a summer like a green house. However I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I have my radio, my heater, some sunscreen and I’m good to go!

    1. Mine isn't ideal because obviously it looks a bit ugly in places but if you have a spare room that would be perfect :) xoxo
