People’s Choice Award I thought how familiar Katy Perry’s dress seemed. I instantly thought ‘that’s so Betsey Johnson’ and then I realised ‘of course!’, it’s from her Spring/Summer 2011 show which I discussed a few months ago. At the time I noted how for me these dresses were the highlight of her show, well for me at least, and it’s absolutely the perfect dress to reflect her personality, and it’s as colourful, fun and kooky as the music she makes that won her the awards.
This stunning, stunning dress is the epitome of so many of Betsey’s designs, with its strapless tulle, full netted skirt, cutesy fairy-tale princess ball-gown design, with a tea party dress hemline, and a 50s vintage silhouette frame to it. But the magenta, purple and turquoise colour scheme, with an almost Jackson Pollock esque modern splattered paint effect, updates it instantly, and keeps it really youthful. In fact apparently the dress was slightly modified as Katy opted to shorten it to make it a little less poufy.
The dress is really set off with a pair of hot Casadei hot pink satin peep toe shoes, and with the perfect addition of a well matched turquoise waist belt which suits it perfectly. Make up wise, Katy gets it oh so right with a bubble gum shade of pink lipstick, which compliments her shoes amazingly well, and a stunning pale turquoise nail polish on fingers and toes is the perfect finishing touch (China Glaze 'For Audrey' anyone?)
When I talked about this dress in September, I said it reminded me of flashing neon lights of New York (the inspiration behind Betsey’s show), and I honestly think this dress is made for Katy Perry, and I almost wonder whether she was the inspiration behind it. It just perfectly captures everything about her.
