Favourites: October 2010

This month has flown by, and it’s been so busy for me as I started Uni again. Blogging wise, it’s been a totally rubbish month for me as as you all know, my laptop collapsed and I only recently got a replacement. So I’m sorry for lacking with posts here! But anyway, here’s just a few things I’ve been loving this month…

1. Liverpool

I’ve decided that I don’t want to just have beauty or fashion favourites, but to include things outside this area that I love. So to start things off I thought I’d share with you all my favourite place of the month: Liverpool! This really is my second home. I have family around the area so I visit about once a year, if not more. I’ve literally just come home from a few days away and I just fall more and more in love with the place. My favourite spot is Mathew Street, where you can visit all things Beatlemania, and then wander into the WAGs haven ‘Cricket’ and my favourite, my beloved Vivienne Westwood. It’s a very special place to me.  But it was emotional this time, as I visited places without my Grandpa. I visited the school he taught Paul McCartney and George Harrison at, drove past his old home, and basically everything just made me think of him.

2. Cupcakes

Check out this gorgeous cupcake! I only wish I could say I’ve made it! Sadly this is someone else's handy work, but I do adore making cupcakes, I just haven’t had time lately. Lots of bloggers are really into baking, especially the lovely Milly, so it’s inspired me to get cupcake making again! Oh and in case you’re wondering, it tasted as good as it looked!

3. LUSH ‘Gingerbread House’ Bubble Bar Slice

I love LUSH, you all know this, but I keep saying it because it means a lot to me! I’ve grown up with LUSH and to be honest, the best thing about this time of year for me is Christmas LUSH products! Unfortunately some of my favourite things come out of these collections, and I say unfortunately because most aren’t brought back each year. This Christmas isn’t a great collection to me. I know LUSH is a new blogging craze, but for those like me who have been collecting since the 90s, you’ll remember some epic LUSH products! My favourite in particular was Hollywood, and Ruby Red Slippers. This bubble bar slice however is the best of the products this year (Snow Fairy will always get the crown though!). It has a gorgeous spicy gingerbread smell and smells exactly like a Christmas market. Simply gorgeous, I’m going to have to stock up on these!

4. Gok Wan ‘Through Thick and Thin’ and Cheryl Cole ‘Through My Eyes’

We were really early for our flight today so I had a lot of time to spare in the airport and made purchases I normally wouldn’t, and these two books are an example of this! I never ever, ever buy books and yet this month alone I have purchased not only Lauren Conrad’s new book, but now Gok Wan and Cheryl Cole’s autobiography! The offer lured me in, but I am a big fan of the above. I was flicking through both on the plane and they are both fascinating. I never knew that Gok Wan had such a troubled upbringing, and the photos in Cheryl’s book are simply stunning. Both recommended reads if you are fans!

079 5. River Island Bear Knitted Beanie Hats

Yes it’s THE hat that everyone owns but how could anyone resist these cuties? They are of course the infamous bear hats that were spotted on Katy Perry, to name just one, and then everyone went into a frenzy and River Island stores everywhere sold out. Well the people at River Island seemed to have taken note this year and there’s now a whole array of cute bear hats that grace their stores, and they seem to be coping with the demand! On the left is my hat from last year, the one Katy Perry wore, and then the one on the right is a new design from this year. They’re so cute and snug and I don’t want to take them off! So many stores are trying to imitate them, but River Island, your version cannot be beaten!

6. Patterned Tights

I love patterned tights, it’s as simple as that! Preferably thick, like these New Look ones above. They’re just so cosy and as I never wear jeans or trousers (I know, I know, I’m a little strange!) these keep me warm throughout winter. Cheryl Cole’s latest video for ‘Promise This’ is proof that patterned tights are in, and the crazier the design, the better!

7. Paper Planes Overnight Travel Bag

I virtually commute to Uni, well I’m home a lot, so this weekend travel bag is absolutely essential for me. It fits everything I need in for a weekend away, or more, as I took it to Liverpool as well. It’s by Paper Planes and I know what you’re thinking, I’ve seen Zoe mention this, and yes she has it too! She got hers from a boutique, but I got mine from Yumi but this was a little while ago now. I think I saw one in their store recently though so if you’re after this, it may be worth trying there. But this is a super cute bag, and I’m constantly complimented on it!

8. Origins Breast Cancer ‘Peace of Mind’ On-the-spot-relief

I love Origins, and I’ve always been intrigued by this product. I tried it absolutely ages ago but couldn’t fund it at the time, but as pay day was just around the corner I finally got this little miracle worker! What’s more, in support of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, £2 from the sale of every special edition pink Peace of Mind On-the-spot-relief during the month of October will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. I’ll be putting up a proper review pretty soon, so if you’ve never tried it, hopefully that will be useful. In the meantime, click here to check it out online.

9. LUSH Whipstick Lip Balm

Yes more LUSH! I’ve been using this lip balm since the first day it was released and I don’t know how I ever coped without it! To me it’s the best lip balm in the world, and it’s the only one that doesn’t actually dry out my lips and leaves them hydrated for ages. Oh, and it smells and tastes pretty delicious!

10. MAC Lady Gaga Viva Glam Lipglass

There’s no denying that it feels great buying new beauty goodies, but you know what’s far more satisfying? Buying beauty products for good, and this month, as well as the Origin’s Peace of Mind going to Breast Cancer Research, the full RRP (less VAT) from the sale of this Viva Glam Lady Gaga lipglass goes toward helping women, men and children everywhere affected by HIV and Aids. And this lipglass is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a beautiful creamy moisturising perfect pink shade that would look amazing on everyone. Go get it, now!

So that’s just a few things I’ve been loving this month but I wanted to include loads more. But what have you been loving or liking a lot lately? Let me know your favourites below, and link me to your favourites post if you’ve done one : ). Oh and of course, Happy Halloween, if you celebrate!

xoxo

  1. Great list, Georgie :)

I have the MAC lipglass on my birthday list, and Gingerbread House is my favourite Christmas Lush product by far. I know how you feel about Christmas Lush products my favourites almost NEVER come back! Silent White, Snow Festival, Brandy Butter... :(

Thinking of doing my own October top 10 now! It would also include Gingerbread House, hehe.

  2. I'm new to your blog and have loved reading. Can't wait to read more.
Great favourites, those Lush products look good enough to eat and the cupcake looks too good to eat.
I do feel good buying beauty products that donate to charities, I don't feel as guilty buying so many things knowing some of it is going to a good cause :)
