REVIEW: Sleek Make Up i-divine Mineral Based Eyeshadow Palettes

So finally I got myself the Sleek eyeshadow palettes! They've been out of stock in all my local Superdrugs for the last few weeks but at last I got my hands on them. And for those wondering, yes these are the infamous under £5 eyeshadow palettes that every single beauty blogger has been going mad for...so I'm a bit late with this so sorry! If you're not sure what Sleek Make Up is then very simply, it's a drugstore (highstreet) cosmetic brand sold exclusively at Superdrug in the UK. It started out at as a make up range aimed for darker skinned women (foundations, concealer etc)but now they cater for most skintones. Anyway apart from foundation they also sell 12 eyeshadow palettes which are highly raved about because they are very good value (about £4.88) and very pigmented.

*** Just wanted to edit this post to add that these eyeshadows are mineral based and so they're very delicate...basically, be careful with them and try not to drop them...they won't look so good shattered on the floor! ***
Firstly here are some photos of the Sleek palette against a MAC palette and then MAC eyeshadow and B eyeshadows against the Sleek ones. You can see quite clearly that the MAC one is a lot bigger, but then B eyeshadow is exactly the same size!

Original Palette

This palette is actually one of my favourites- it really does have a bit of everything in it. Gorgeous neutral colours and a black to create a smokey eye look, or something more natural, and then bright greens, blues and a purple for a bit of colour. It's one of the most versatile palettes in my opinion, and perhaps it's because it's obviously the original, and Sleek may not have known it was going to take off like it did?! The pigmentation and texture of this palette is lovely, apart from the pale gold on the second row which I couldn't get to swatch well. For those that love the look of this one then don't worry, as it's permanent.

Sunset Palette
So it's not hard to see where they got the name for this palette, and this is truly packed with colours you imagine when you think of a sunset! So yes, a very apt name ;). It is most definitely my favourite palette, just because the colours are stunning and they compliment each other so perfectly. Of course, you can create a classic sunset look of yellow, orange and red, but there's also warm cranberry shades and pinkish hues to create softer and yet still beautiful sunset looks. Even the blue could be mixed with the other colours and it wouldn't look too OTT. I particularly love the fact there's a yellow, orange and red as I need a red and orange on my collection but didn't want to splurge on MAC because I know I wouldn't get a lot of use out of it. So this is perfect. Love, love, love this palette and I can't wait to play around with the colours! Like the original, the pigmentation and texture is fab on each colour. I believe this is a limited edition palette? Correct me if I'm wrong please, but if I'm not, then go get it quick! It only came out in October this year.

Storm Palette
Compared to the others you may think this one looks a bit bland but don't be fooled! The colours are a combination of light neutrals and dark blues and greens. For me, I could create an everyday eye look but also a smokey eye look too. It's really pretty. The texture is a mixture of shimmers and some mattes. I'm not actually too fond of the mattes...they don't work for me so well. They're just a bit dry and chalky for my liking, but hopefully it'll be easier to use once I've used it a bit more, if you see what I mean! I think if you like colours and looks that aren't too 'out there' then this is probably the palette for you. It's the most practical and adaptable by far. I just wish the mattes were a bit easier to work with as good matte shades are so hard to find! This one is permanent.

Graphite Palette

Okay this is the latest palette from Sleek and highly coveted because I guess a smokey eye never goes out of fashion huh! It's limited edition and was released in October but I saw a few the other day, so don't be going on ebay and paying the ridiculous buy it now prices! So the reason there are no swatches (which I'm sorry for!) is because I'm not sure what I think about this palette. I brought it on a whim because it's been so hyped about and I didn't want to miss out, but having it sat here with me now, I'm just a bit meh about it. The colours are all very similar and none stand out to me. I do love the sultry smokey eye look but personally with my colouring I use deep chocolate browns instead of blacks and greys so yeah, no idea why I got it now! Not a total loss because you guys may benefit. I might save it for a giveaway for you lovely lot as for the right person, it's a gorgeous palette...just not for me! If you're after swatches then there's tons of others on blogspot, and better than mine would be anyway!

Overall: I can definitely see why these are so raved about- these palettes are gorgeous- each in their own way. If you're shopping for make up on a budget then these would have to be your first stop. And let's face it, in this current economic climate, we're all looking for good quality products at a bargain price. All 4 palettes would cost you less than a single eyeshadow in some brands! Highly pigmented, gorgeous texture and all under £5- total winner in my book! I'd love to hear your views on what you think of the Sleek Palettes so leave them below!

  3. Hello Georgie! Long time no see! Well, I haven't seen a Sleek palette in person yet, but from where I'm standing the two palettes I'd buy would be the Original and the Graphite. I suppose I should tell you why, now, but the truth is with make-up I usually chose at first sight, on impulse almost (unlike with everything else!). Pity you don't like the Graphite, but would love to see some EOTDs with some of the other colours...if it's not too much to ask...I know plenty of other bloggers have done these, one more can't hurt! Thanks for the great swatches! xx

  4. @ Princess Livia- they're gorgeous! I'm ashamed of myself for ignoring them for all those months! Oh is that the Acid one? Yeah I saw that and thought, hmm....not really for the winter months but hopefully the new year I'll get my bright colour mojo back hehe :).

@ Dainty*Dollymix- Thank you sweety! I think you'd like the sunset one! I mean, I do wonder how much use I'll get out of it, but it's the fact it has bright colours that I wouldn't want to spend a lot of money for, if you see what I mean!

  5. Sunset is a permanent palette, but Graphite is LE :)

I love the Sleek palettes I have, the same as you weirdly enough! I haven't yet figured out how to make the mattes in Storm to work for me either, and haven't touched Graphite yet as it's brand spanking new. I probably use Original the most, especially the second pink from the left on the bottom row - it's gorgeous for an everyday look, I tend to pair it with MAC's Swiss Chocolate. Luckily it comes in all the palettes near enough so I won't need to buy a new palette just for that shade for some time, LOL!

  10. @ Anna- Hello! I'm just the same, I always buy things because they look pretty even if they may not work for me...the case with the Graphite palette! I will definitely do some FOTDS though, not too much trouble at all! :). Thank you so much for stopping by! xoxo

@ Smalltowngal- ahh thank you, glad I got sunset now! Yes the mattes are a bit hard to work with aren't they? If they worked, then the palette would be flawless. I definitely get what you mean about THAT pink, you're right it's in every single palette! I love the combo with MAC Swiss Chocolate, I actually did something like this, this morning with the original palette. Great minds think alike ;). Thanks for stopping by! xoxo

@ Miss Virtue- GET SUNSET- you won't regret it ;). So gorgeous. Yes you're so right, very holiday friendly and I just can't get other how pigmented they are for under a fiver. Amazing! Thank you so much for following my blog, and I love yours too, so it's a pleasure :) xoxo.

  11. Fabulous Review! The sunset palette looks amazing! I bought into the hype and got most of them. But I tend to not use them often. I like them. I really just need to use up some stuff so I can show them more love!!

  12. @ Sara- I definitely know what you mean! I feel I won't ever need to buy anymore eyeshadows now but then I still end up getting them! haha.

  13. I was a bit worried that these would be cheap and nasty - I can't believe the quality of the shades and pigments considering each palette's only a fiver!

How well do they blend together when applying?

  14. @ Amanda- they blend like a dream! I was really surprised about this, but the formula is so creamy and buttery. Does that even make sense? ha. I think the mattes are hard to work with, but there's not many of those. I would definitely pick up a palette such as Storm, or Graphite- filled with neutrals/smokey shades :).
